Season 4 of Top Shot starts Feb. 14th at 9:00 cst on the History Channel.

I saw a commercial for it last night and it looked they were shooting the KelTec KSG in one of the challenges. It was a quick picture, but I think that's what it was.

I hope they dedicate more time to the cool guns and challenges and less to the drama and stupidness.

I'm thinking about signing Big Mullet for the next season. He keeps saying he doesn't want to try out, but I don't believe him...

Romney wins big in Florida...

Romney walked away from the Florida primary last night with more votes than Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum combined.

The speeches by the candidates after the winner was announced were interesting, especially after how nasty the campaign was. Mitt Romney didn't mention Newt once during his speech and Newt never mentioned Romney.

In his speech, Newt made a lot of very bold statements about what he would do, day one, if he were to be elected. It was all good stuff. Getting rid of all the czars and throwing out obamacare were the big ones to me.

Romney was gracious. His speech was about what you would expect from him. My biggest concern with Romney is that none of the plans that he has laid out are bold. It's hard to imagine what a Romney presidency would look like. Bold is what we are going to need to recover from the hell of the obama era.

Rick Santorum gave a nice speech. I have to admit, my first impressions of him were wrong. He seems to be a good guy that truly cares about this Country and putting us back on a path to greatness. It's too bad he doesn't have the money or the boots on the ground to make this a real race.

Ron Paul came in fourth with about 7% of the vote. His speech was good too. You have to give it to the guy. He has a following of some very dedicated people. If, by some weird turn of events, he became the nominee, I would vote for him. Foreign policy... dang, other than that and a few odds and ends, I could really like the guy.

We are on to Nevada this week. Let's hope that these guys can spend a little more time talking about the real issues instead of kicking each other in the nuts...

obama hopes to ride auto bailout to reelection

You have to be kidding. obama thinks THIS is a reelection item? HAHAHAHA.

Despite what the CEO of government motors, ed whitacre, said, gm has NOT paid back all of the bailout money. Playing stupid accounting tricks DOES NOT equal PAID IN FULL. Couple that with the fact that the federal government (Us, the taxpayers) still owns a pretty good sized chunk of gm and this is a big mess. GM stock is trading at $24 bucks a share. It would have to be trading at $53 bucks a share for us to break even. Add to that, that obama handed a big chunk of the company over to the unions.

It would have been much better for gm to have gone through bankruptcy, reworked all of the union contracts and come out the other side with dignity and an ability to make a profit at some point.

I have said it before, I will NEVER buy another new gm product. The bullshit games have turned me against a company I was once VERY loyal to. I still own seven Chevy products, none of them are newer than 2007.

If obama plans to use this as his reelection strategy, that's great. You democrats better hope he has a backup plan though, because this one sucks ass...

Despite the bailout money still owned taxpayers, President Barack Obama is going to try to ride his rescue of General Motors and Chrysler to a reelection victory.

Proof? Look no further than his surprise visit to the Washington Auto Show today where he took a close look at some of Detroit's new models.

The Associated Press says for Obama, the auto bailout is a case study for his efforts to revive the economy and a potential point of contrast with Republican Mitt Romney, who opposed Obama's decision to pour billions of dollars into the auto companies. If Romney wins the GOP nomination, expect to hear a lot about the car industry.

"The American auto industry was on the verge of collapse. And some politicians were willing to let it just die. We said no," Obama told college students last week in Ann Arbor, Mich. "We believe in the workers of this state." That's Obama meeting with students last week in the photo.

The AP goes on to say:

Obama was expected to visit the Washington Auto Show today, giving him another forum to talk about GM and Chrysler, along with the administration's attention to manufacturers and efforts to boost fuel efficiency standards. The White House has taken every opportunity to highlight its efforts to rebuild the auto industry, pointing to GM's reemergence as the world's largest automaker and job growth and profitability in the U.S. auto industry.

The president's campaign views the auto storyline as a potent argument against Romney — who, even though he is the son of a Detroit auto executive, opposed the bailout. As the industry was collapsing in the fall of 2008, the former Massachusetts governor predicted in a New York Times op-ed that if the companies received a federal bailout, "you can kiss the American automotive industry goodbye." Romney said the companies should have undergone a "managed bankruptcy" that would have avoided a government bailout.

"Whether it was by President Bush or by President Obama, it was the wrong way to go," Romney said at a GOP presidential debate in Michigan in November. Romney said the nation has "capital markets and bankruptcy — it works in the U.S. The idea of billions of dollars being wasted initially, then finally they adopted the managed bankruptcy. I was among others that said we ought to do that."

Tomorrow the voters of the Great State of Florida go to the polls in the republican primary. Everyone says Romney is far out in front.

I have to tell you, I think all the back and forth nastiness between Newt and Romney is bullshit. These guys seem willing to do or say anything to get votes. I'm about sick of both of them.

I think I am liking Rick Santorum more each day, but the guy is unelectable. He isn't too conservative for me, but I think he might be for the more moderate voters.

I have a feeling that unless Newt and Romney knock off the petty shit, they are going to cost us the election in November. They are dividing instead of unifying. This election should be about obama and the lousy job he has done, the ruinous policies he has forced on our Country. Instead these two idiots attack each other in down right mean ways. It's not interesting and it certainly isn't productive.

obama has provided candidates with plenty of ammunition to attack him with. It's time to get down to the business of showing this Country why the republican on the ticket would be FAR superior to the socialist we have now...

There's no compelling scientific argument for drastic action to 'decarbonize' the world's economy.

Editor's Note: The following has been signed by the 16 scientists listed at the end of the article:

A candidate for public office in any contemporary democracy may have to consider what, if anything, to do about "global warming." Candidates should understand that the oft-repeated claim that nearly all scientists demand that something dramatic be done to stop global warming is not true. In fact, a large and growing number of distinguished scientists and engineers do not agree that drastic actions on global warming are needed.

In September, Nobel Prize-winning physicist Ivar Giaever, a supporter of President Obama in the last election, publicly resigned from the American Physical Society (APS) with a letter that begins: "I did not renew [my membership] because I cannot live with the [APS policy] statement: 'The evidence is incontrovertible: Global warming is occurring. If no mitigating actions are taken, significant disruptions in the Earth's physical and ecological systems, social systems, security and human health are likely to occur. We must reduce emissions of greenhouse gases beginning now.' In the APS it is OK to discuss whether the mass of the proton changes over time and how a multi-universe behaves, but the evidence of global warming is incontrovertible?"

In spite of a multidecade international campaign to enforce the message that increasing amounts of the "pollutant" carbon dioxide will destroy civilization, large numbers of scientists, many very prominent, share the opinions of Dr. Giaever. And the number of scientific "heretics" is growing with each passing year. The reason is a collection of stubborn scientific facts.

Perhaps the most inconvenient fact is the lack of global warming for well over 10 years now. This is known to the warming establishment, as one can see from the 2009 "Climategate" email of climate scientist Kevin Trenberth: "The fact is that we can't account for the lack of warming at the moment and it is a travesty that we can't." But the warming is only missing if one believes computer models where so-called feedbacks involving water vapor and clouds greatly amplify the small effect of CO2.

The lack of warming for more than a decade—indeed, the smaller-than-predicted warming over the 22 years since the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) began issuing projections—suggests that computer models have greatly exaggerated how much warming additional CO2 can cause. Faced with this embarrassment, those promoting alarm have shifted their drumbeat from warming to weather extremes, to enable anything unusual that happens in our chaotic climate to be ascribed to CO2.

The fact is that CO2 is not a pollutant. CO2 is a colorless and odorless gas, exhaled at high concentrations by each of us, and a key component of the biosphere's life cycle. Plants do so much better with more CO2 that greenhouse operators often increase the CO2 concentrations by factors of three or four to get better growth. This is no surprise since plants and animals evolved when CO2 concentrations were about 10 times larger than they are today. Better plant varieties, chemical fertilizers and agricultural management contributed to the great increase in agricultural yields of the past century, but part of the increase almost certainly came from additional CO2 in the atmosphere.

Although the number of publicly dissenting scientists is growing, many young scientists furtively say that while they also have serious doubts about the global-warming message, they are afraid to speak up for fear of not being promoted—or worse. They have good reason to worry. In 2003, Dr. Chris de Freitas, the editor of the journal Climate Research, dared to publish a peer-reviewed article with the politically incorrect (but factually correct) conclusion that the recent warming is not unusual in the context of climate changes over the past thousand years. The international warming establishment quickly mounted a determined campaign to have Dr. de Freitas removed from his editorial job and fired from his university position. Fortunately, Dr. de Freitas was able to keep his university job.

This is not the way science is supposed to work, but we have seen it before—for example, in the frightening period when Trofim Lysenko hijacked biology in the Soviet Union. Soviet biologists who revealed that they believed in genes, which Lysenko maintained were a bourgeois fiction, were fired from their jobs. Many were sent to the gulag and some were condemned to death.

Why is there so much passion about global warming, and why has the issue become so vexing that the American Physical Society, from which Dr. Giaever resigned a few months ago, refused the seemingly reasonable request by many of its members to remove the word "incontrovertible" from its description of a scientific issue? There are several reasons, but a good place to start is the old question "cui bono?" Or the modern update, "Follow the money."

Alarmism over climate is of great benefit to many, providing government funding for academic research and a reason for government bureaucracies to grow. Alarmism also offers an excuse for governments to raise taxes, taxpayer-funded subsidies for businesses that understand how to work the political system, and a lure for big donations to charitable foundations promising to save the planet. Lysenko and his team lived very well, and they fiercely defended their dogma and the privileges it brought them.

Speaking for many scientists and engineers who have looked carefully and independently at the science of climate, we have a message to any candidate for public office: There is no compelling scientific argument for drastic action to "decarbonize" the world's economy. Even if one accepts the inflated climate forecasts of the IPCC, aggressive greenhouse-gas control policies are not justified economically.

Princeton physics professor William Happer on why a large number of scientists don't believe that carbon dioxide is causing global warming.

A recent study of a wide variety of policy options by Yale economist William Nordhaus showed that nearly the highest benefit-to-cost ratio is achieved for a policy that allows 50 more years of economic growth unimpeded by greenhouse gas controls. This would be especially beneficial to the less-developed parts of the world that would like to share some of the same advantages of material well-being, health and life expectancy that the fully developed parts of the world enjoy now. Many other policy responses would have a negative return on investment. And it is likely that more CO2 and the modest warming that may come with it will be an overall benefit to the planet.

If elected officials feel compelled to "do something" about climate, we recommend supporting the excellent scientists who are increasing our understanding of climate with well-designed instruments on satellites, in the oceans and on land, and in the analysis of observational data. The better we understand climate, the better we can cope with its ever-changing nature, which has complicated human life throughout history. However, much of the huge private and government investment in climate is badly in need of critical review.

Every candidate should support rational measures to protect and improve our environment, but it makes no sense at all to back expensive programs that divert resources from real needs and are based on alarming but untenable claims of "incontrovertible" evidence.

I don't get why people are surprised that obama denied the Keystone XL pipeline. I said back in December that this would happen. He and his people acted like they would approve it only to get the republicans to renew the payroll tax cut. This guy is a scumbag and a liar. He is also anti-American. He can't be trusted.

The republicans in congress are a bunch of fucking morons. They keep believing that this asshole will do what he says. Suckers. How many time do you have to be burned? Holy shit. What a bunch of idiots.

And the democrats in congress are even worse. They allow him to steal their authority without so much as a wimper. They support his agenda of destroying this Country. Every one of them should be tried as traitors.

It isn't very hard to figure obama out. He will do the exact opposite of what is right for our Country. He will lie and deny in order to keep paying off his friends and punishing those who aren't. By rejecting the Keystone XL oil pipeline, President obama did more than just pander to environmentalists. He shredded attempts by his handlers to cast him as a pragmatic and reasonable man who can appeal to independent voters.

Instead, he stands naked as an ideologue willing to sacrifice workers on the altar of special-interest politics.

Thousands of jobs were cast aside with no more thought than yesterday’s socks. Demolished, too, is the promised commitment to energy independence.

The $7 billion pipeline would carry Canadian oil to Gulf Coast ports. Despite three years of study by the State Department, obama tried to put off the decision until after the election.

But Canada offered to change the route to avoid an aquifer in Nebraska, and unions demanded to know whether he would approve a permit, so Republicans put a 60-day deadline in December’s payroll-tax legislation.

Now we have undeniable proof of the president’s priorities. The man who insisted that “making sure jobs are available is the first thing I think about when I wake up every morning” was just reading empty words from a TelePrompter.

obama didn’t even have the decency to explain himself, sending out a lame statement that hinted he wasn’t making a decision on the merits, only reacting to the deadline.

The suggestion that he might ultimately approve the project is a shameless bid to deny the obvious. He made his choice because that’s who he is.

Meanwhile, Canada, saying it is “profoundly disappointed,” is turning to Plan B. It likely will build a pipeline to its West Coast and sell the oil to China.

Three isn't a trend, it's a conspiracy. There are so many things wrong with how obama and his gang of thugs continue to fund their supporters with OUR TAX DOLLARS that I don't even know where to start.

If an industry has to be funded by the government in order to exist, it will never be able to stand on it's own. Pumping our tax dollars into hand picked companies is criminal. The people starting these companies are all obama supporters and donors.

Just in the three companies mentioned in this article, obama has thrown $700 MILLION dollars of OUR money right down the toilet. We will never see that money again.

The third federally subsidized green energy company to declare bankruptcy seems to indicate a pattern, said Rep. Cliff Stearns, chairman of the House Energy and Commerce subcommittee on oversight and investigations.

“One bankruptcy may be a fluke, two could be coincidence, but three is a trend,” Stearns said in a written statement. “Our investigation continues, and we are working to ensure taxpayers never are never again stuck paying hundreds of millions of dollars because of the administration’s risky bets.”

Ener1, which makes batteries for electric vehicles, announced Thursday it had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The company had been awarded a $118.5 million from the Energy Department through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, better known as the stimulus.

The obama administration has already been under fire for a $535 million stimulus-funded loan it made to California-based solar panel company Solyndra, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last fall before being raided by the FBI. The House Energy and Commerce Committee has been investigating the Solyndra loan.Also late last fall, the Massachusetts-based Beacon Power, green energy storage plant that got $43 million in stimulus funds, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Ener1 announced the Chapter 11 filing one year to the day that Vice President joe biden visited a Greenville, Ind. plant on Jan. 26, 2011.

“President obama was prophetic this week during his State of the Union address when he casually remarked, ‘Some technologies don’t pan out; some companies fail,’” Stearns said.

In his 2011 State of the Union address, obama pledged to put 1 million electric vehicles on the road by 2015. The next day, biden visited an Ener1 plant in Greenville, Ind., where he said, “Well, ladies and gentlemen, here at Ener1, we’re going to harness electricity and bring it to the world like Edison did more than a century ago,” said Biden. “We're going to reshape the way Americans drive, the way Americans consume, the way Americans power their lives.”

Ener1 makes at least the third company that received money from the Recovery Act to file for bankruptcy protection.

“Unfortunately, you can now add Ener1 to the growing list of failed companies that went belly up after hundreds of millions of dollars in administration backing,” Stearns continued. “Sadly, the Department of Energy’s jobs record seems to grow worse by the day -- first Solyndra, then Beacon Power, and now Ener1 -- and it is American taxpayers who are paying the price.”

CNSNews.com first reported Thursday that the bankruptcy announcement came a year after the biden visit.

Ener1 spokesman Guy Westermeyer told CNSNews.com the Chapter 11 filing would not effect the federal grant. He said the grant specifically went to Ener1 subsidiary EnderDel.

"EnerDel plans to continue working with the DOE to complete the project for which it received funding through the ARRA grant it was awarded in August, 2009," Westermeyer told CNSNews.com in a written statement. He added, "EnerDel proactively applied for a grant from the 2009 American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) to help create a lithium-ion battery market industry in the U.S, where one did not previously exist."

How about that debate last night?

If you missed the debate last night, you missed a pretty good one. Once again, Romney and Newt went after each other, but, it was warranted. Each of them have been running ads against the other and they had an opportunity to call each other out on them. Rick Santorum tried to play peace maker and get the debate back on track.

Mitt Romney had a good debate. Newt has attacked Romney lately in Florida ads over his Cayman accounts and his Swiss accounts. It is proven that Romney has broken no laws with his taxes or investments, so the attacks were baseless. Romney was finally able to stand up for his success with his head held high. How have we gotten to a point in this Country where we are willing to demonize someone for personal success? Isn't that what the American dream is all about? Romney made his own money. He didn't inherit his fortune. How is that wrong? As his fortune has grown, he has invested millions and millions of dollars into our economy.

Romney also scored big against Newt about immigration. Newt accused Romney of being anti-immigrant. Romney clarified his stance on legal and illegal immigration, and pointed out where Newt's accusation was incorrect.

Newt Gingrich had what may have been his worst debate to date. He seemed to spend most of the evening on his heels. Another new development last night was how few mentions there were by Newt of Ronald Reagan. With all the recent stories coming out minimizing Newt's actual influence in the Reagan presidency, he appears to have felt the heat. He mentioned Reagan about 3 times. In past debates that number would have been 15+. He did stand his ground on the Regan issue, and he has received some endorsements from Regan insiders.

Newt lost points by trying to attack Romney for having investments in FreddieMac and FannieMae. Romney actually does have those investments, but so does Newt. You and I might have those same investments. Romney has an investment portfolio that is managed by someone else, much like our 401k. He has no control over which mutual funds this investment manager buys and sells.

Rick Santorum had a good debate. He showed a lot of passion. He scored big attacking Romney on the RomneyCare/obamacare. Santorum made some good points. How is Romney going to stand up on a stage and debate obama on the health care issue when Romneycare was a model for obamacare.

I also like Santorum's stand on Cuba. obama talks about normalizing relations with Cuba even though Cuba is committing the same human rights violations that got them sanctioned in the first place. Appeasement isn't going to improve the lives of the Cuban people.

Ron Paul had a good debate. Like always, his ideas and opinions on fiscal policy are outstanding. At every debate he claims that he would cut $1 TRILLION dollars from the budget in the first year. I believe him. Actually, I don't think it would be that difficult for someone that really tried. There is so much waste, fraud and abuse that $1 TRILLION would be the tip of the iceberg.

Ron Paul talked about his ideas for dealing with Cuba. I had to disagree. Again, appeasement isn't going to help the Cuban people who suffer daily.

I have heard some messed up stuff lately. A few days ago I heard some young guy say that if his company was going to pay him just to enough to keep him from quitting, he would do just enough not to get fired.

A couple of days before that I heard a couple of cashiers talking at Walmart about how much the company sucked, it didn't pay enough, on and on.

In my life I have had some messed up jobs, but you know what, I busted my ass at every one of them. If a company is going to hire me and give me a paycheck every week, I am going to earn that money. I'm going to do the best job that I can do every day. You know what happens when you do that? You get promoted or get a raise. Employers notice when you do a good job. They reward you for that.

Taking pride in your work is a good thing. If a company hires you to wash dishes you should strive to be the best dis washer they ever had. Why is that lost on the current generation entering the workplace? It's not rocket science. There is nothing wrong with starting at the bottom. From there you have nowhere to go but up.

The entitlement mentality is really getting on my last nerve. Nobody owes you a damn thing. Get a job. Do a good job. Make more money. Get some pride. Be a productive member of society instead of a leech. It might actually help your self esteem...

Romney released his tax returns. I wonder what people, mainly democrats, will be saying about them.

You can bet they won't be talking about the 7 MILLION dollars he gave to charity over the last two years. The amount for 2011 is 4 MILLION dollars or about 20% of his income.

Do you know that between 2000 and 2004 obama gave less than 1% of his income to charity? After he had a massive increase in income from his book sales, he bumped that all the way up to 5%. Of course, he had already begun to campaign for president by then, so it was only appropriate. What a scumbag hypocrite.

You can bet that the vast majority of the 7 MILLION dollars that Romney donated went to help people in need in one way or another. What do you think would have been done with that money had it been paid in taxes? It might have been sent to China as foreign aid, or maybe Pakistan. Or it might have been used to fund some valuable government research, like how a shrimp runs on a treadmill.

Then you have to wonder about obama's donation. Did it go to rev. wright's church to further the reach of black liberation theology? Or maybe fund another trip for rev. wright to visit an evil tyrant dictator?

Oh, and keep this in mind, biden gave an average of $369 bucks a year to charity for the ten years before he became vice president. And when al gore was vice president in 1997, he gave $353 dollars to charity.

It's kind of amazing really, my Bride and I aren't wealthy and we give more than biden and gore combined, quadrupled.

These are the guys that want everyone else to give up more of their money. They are a bunch of typical scumbag, hypocrite democrats. It's real easy to be free and easy with other people's money, not so much when it is your own...

obama will be giving his state of the union speech tonight. As in the past, I won't be watching it. It would be far too tempting to throw something through the screen.

You can bet though, that the speech will be full of blame for everyone except himself. He will refuse to admit anything. There will be lots of class warfare bullshit. There will be lots of stupid cliches. Probably 20 or 30 "let me be clear's".

There will be lots of talk about the "do nothing" congress, which is great except the Republican controlled House has passed all kinds of things that are dead on arrival in the democrat controlled senate. Hmm, obama will be half right.

There probably won't be much mention of him breaking the law by not having his budget done on time, but that really doesn't matter because the senate hasn't passed a budget in over 1,000 days. It's always easier to spend a bunch of money you don't have when no one can hold you to a budget.

There probably won't be much talk on his 90 rounds of golf or the millions of dollars he and his family have spent on vacations.

I doubt there will be much dwelling on the horrible failure known as obamacare.

There probably won't be a single mention of operation fast and furious or all of the people that should be in prison because of it.

I don't think he will mention how the tsa violates our rights every single day.

Did you watch the debate last night? 1-23-2012

Did you catch the debate last night? I did. It was quite a bit different than the South Carolina debate. The folks in Florida are much more laid back. There was very little applause and no shouting out.

I think Rick Santorum won last night's contest. He stayed on point. He didn't seem arrogant. He didn't spend the entire night beating up on the other candidates. He appeared compassionate. He gave good, solid answers to the questions he was asked. This, in my opinion, was his best debate.

Ron Paul had a good debate. His views on domestic and financial issues were spot on. He has great ideas on how to get our economy moving. His views on the Constitution and how it should be applied are excellent. I had to disagree with his views on how Iran should be dealt with, but it was a minimal part of the debate. I thought he did an excellent job of staying on point and avoiding the drama.

Newt Gingrich had a much different debate last night than he did in South Carolina. He seemed to have lost some of the fire that is Newt. He appeared to not have great answers to some of the criticism from Romney. Maybe his advisers told him to tone down the passion a bit. If so, I think it was bad advice. It made him appear to be struggling for answers. Newt is going to have to come up with a solid defense for the work he did with freddie mac. The accusations that he acted as a lobbyist will only intensify if he is the one to face the obama smear machine.

Mitt Romney seemed angry and a little desperate. His attacks against Newt Gingrich, while valid, seemed to have a nasty tone to them. I think Romney is beginning to realize that him getting the nomination isn't a sure thing. I also think his tax returns are going to hurt him. He may have done everything by the rules, but many people will be turned off my the obscene amount of money he has. It shouldn't make a difference. He has earned his money, but the class warfare crap that obama has been playing has been effective with a lot of people.

Last night seemed to be just another chance for the moderator to get the candidates to fight each other. It would be nice to spend one entire debate talking about the differences between these candidates and obama. I would like to know how these guys plan to undo all of the damage obama has caused. We have heard their plans is a basic way. I want more details. Be specific.

The poll shows 83 percent of Americans are dissatisfied with the state of the economy; 69 percent are unhappy about big government; and 68 percent don't like the nation's moral and ethical climate. Gallup says American's confidence in the nation's moral and ethical climate has fallen to a new low in January 2012.

The poll released on Monday measures Americans' level of satisfaction (and dissatisfaction) on 24 issues between Jan. 5-8, 2012. It then compares those numbers with a similar poll conducted in January 2008 -- ten months before Obama was elected president.

In addition to the three issues mentioned above, the poll found a majority (51 percent or more) of Americans are dissatisfied on eleven other specific issues, including immigration (64% dissatisfied), anti-poverty efforts (70% dissatisfied), the role the U.S. plays in foreign affairs (53% dissatisfied), acceptance of homosexuality (51% dissatisfied), quality of public education (61% dissatisfied), how government works (64% dissatisfied), the nation's energy policies (51% dissatisfied), Social Security and Medicare (60% dissatisfied), amount paid in federal taxes (61%), the availability of affordable health care (65%), and the size and influence of American corporations (64%).

Imagine that, the obama administration siding with the jack booted thugs of the tsa. Especially against a member of congress that has been a very vocal critic of this gang of thugs.

The tsa says they didn't detain Senator Paul, he says they did. Hmmm, let's see, this is the same agency that said they didn't strip search some elderly women but recently say that they made a mistake in doing it. I'm going to go with Sen. Paul on this one. The White House is standing by the Transportation Security Administration in its standoff with Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and his father, Republican presidential candidate Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas).

The elder Paul called the TSA a "police state" Monday after Rand Paul was reportedly detained by TSA after he refused to take a pat-down from TSA officials at the Nashville International Airport.

White House press secretary Jay Carney said Monday that he didn't have any reaction to Paul's "police state" comments.

But Carney sided with the TSA saying, "I think it is absolutely essential that we take necessary actions to ensure that air travel is safe."

Ron Paul, who is one of four remaining Republican candidates for president, disagreed Monday afternoon. Paul said after he confirmed the incident involving Rand Paul on his Twitter page that it showed why the TSA should be eliminated.

"The police state in this country is growing out of control," the elder Paul said in a statement released by his presidential campaign.

"One of the ultimate embodiments of this is the TSA that gropes and grabs our children, our seniors, and our loved ones and neighbors with disabilities," he continued. "The TSA does all of this while doing nothing to keep us safe. That is why my ‘Plan to Restore America,’ in additional to cutting $1 trillion dollars in federal spending in one year, eliminates the TSA."

TSA has defended its treatment of Rand Paul, saying that its employees in Nashville followed its normal procedure with the senator, who has often sharply criticized the agency's pat-downs before he refused one Monday morning.

I have a better idea, let's teach our children, male and female, that abstinence is a good thing and that having children before you are married isn't the best way to go. Do you really think that encouraging young girls to have abortions is the best thing for their mental state? Many, many women who have had abortions live with regret for the rest of their lives. Seems like that might be a shot to the old self esteem. Low self esteem is probably what led these young girls to being in a situation to become pregnant. I talk to my children. I let them know every day how much I love them and how special they are to me. They don't have self esteem issues. They are comfortable in their own skin and they make good decisions.

Maybe if we started emphasizing the importance of family and family values we would have a lot less pregnant young girls. Will this solve every issue? No, but if it gives half of these young ladies a better chance to make good, healthy decisions it beats the heck out of going through life knowing that you had an abortion.

obama is absolutely clueless. He has no values. Someone with no values or morals should NOT be telling other people how to live their lives.

One last thing, I've read the Constitution many times, I don't remember seeing abortion mentioned in there once, not a single time...

I saw part of it. Yesterday was a long day and I have to admit I fell asleep on the couch. I'll watch it this evening and chime in tomorrow.

But... what I DID see was pretty awesome. Newt got all in John King's ass. He tore into the media. It was outstanding. I can't wait to watch the rest of the debate tonight.

I also saw that Mitt Romney completely dodged the question raised by Newt about the companies in South Carolina that were aquired by Bain Capital. Like I've said before, venture capital is a risky business. Sometimes a financial risk pays off and sometimes it doesn't. Mitt should be able to explain that. But when he dodges a question it appears that he is hiding something. I would like to think that Mitt Romney conducted his business in a fair and ethical manner, but the longer he avoids and dodges questions the more it appears as if he has something to hide.

Rick Santorum appeared to be slipping back into his earlier debate self. The old arrogance and disdain seemed to be creeping back in. I only saw the first half hour or so, so he may have corrected that as the debate wore on. I'll find out later.

Anyway, that's all I have so far...

One story after another, with attention grabbing but misleading headlines, about the republican candidates. It never fails. Like the headline about Romney having a tax rate of 15%. Ok, what's the problem? He isn't breaking the law. He isn't guilty of tax evasion. And unlike most of the people in the obama administration, he pays his taxes on time.

Look, when you earn your money from investments you pay taxes on the capital gains you receive when you make a sale. That tax rate is 15%. But here's the thing, the money that you purchased your investments with was already taxed! You get taxed at one rate when you earn your money, for rich people like Romney I'm not sure what that rate is, but probably 25% or better. And then when you invest that money, you get taxed again on the profit from those investments. Romney doesn't have a real job, he is retired, so the money he makes every year is from investments. Why is this a huge headline, especially delivered in a sinister way, like he is getting over on the system.

The same thing with the interview by Newt's ex-wife. The marriage ended badly, A LONG TIME AGO. Sure, she is probably bitter. And she might even be willing to embellish that bitterness to a certain degree if she feels she can unload a little of her anger. Newt has admitted time and time again that he has had made mistakes. Who hasn't? Newt says he got religion and is a changed man. Who are we to say he isn't? Do you know what is in the man's heart?

But none of these gotcha headlines were ever directed at obama. Not in 2008 and not to date in this campaign. You want to talk about a guy with some serious baggage, this is him. Never a mention of associating with terrorists (bill ayers and bernadine dorn), never a mention of associating with known criminals (tony rezko), never a mention of associating with anti-American radicals (rev. wright). And the list goes on and on. How about that he has no voting record in his home state, other than voting present. While that is a tactic that keeps you from having a voting record that people can pin on you, it doesn't say much for his stance on substantial issues. The media NEVER called him on any of these things. We wound up with the most flawed, unqualified president ever in the history of our Country. The media will refuse to do their job again this time. Instead they will just do a hatchet job on the republicans.

When we narrow this republican field down to a nominee, there will be nothing obama and his gang of thugs can do but attack. They can't defend. There is nothing that the obama administration has done that democrats want to run on. The economy is horrible, obamacare was a HUGE mistake, they have done NOTHING to create a business friendly environment, they have wasted TRILLIONS of tax dollars.

And the really bad part is the attacks don't even have to be truthful. Many people won't do the research. They will hear the lies, the statements taken out of context, the toxic headlines without facts or figures to back them up and believe them. And obama and his attack dogs will say them over and over getting more shrill with each passing day.

We have a duty as Americans to elect a president that will put us back on the right path in this Country. European socialism doesn't work. It didn't work in Europe and it won't work here. Every time it has been tried, historically, it has failed. Do your research...

My friend and frequent commenter Dave, sent me this article by Dr. Voddie Baucham explaining his support for Ron Paul. Dr. Baucham is the Pastor of Grace Family Baptist Church in Spring, Texas.

The Pastor makes some excellent points about his support from a biblical perspective.

I don't need to be convinced to agree with Ron Paul on about 80% of what he believes, but the other 20% go against what I believe. The Pastor, and Dave, do make compelling points, but I honestly believe that as a Nation that has been so truly blessed we have an obligation to help others realize the same blessings when we can.

That being said, I do agree that our foreign policy has been out of whack for a LONG time. We DO give money to countries that hate us in the hopes that we continue to have a supply of oil from them. We do interfer in areas that would be better left alone. We do try to impose our will upon people, at times, that don't welcome the intervention.

But how can we, in good conscience, sit on our hands while evil tyrants commit genocide against innocent people? There have been may examples of this in recent history, some times we have intervened and other times we haven't. We, as a Country, should have a policy on when we get involved in those situations and with a clear goal and exit strategy.

I don't believe that us pulling all of our resources from around the world back into our own borders will make us safer, and it certainly won't make our allies more secure. I also don't believe that islamic terrorists hate us because of anything we have done, whether bombing campains as Ron Paul suggests, or anything else. They hate us because we are not muslims. Their goal is a muslim world and they will accept nothing less.

Concerning the muslim extremists and our war on terror, it might be different if it were a war of a more conventional nature. If these guys were in uniform and were attacking military targets. They are not. No matter what anyone says, the people in the Twin Towers on 9/11 did not deserve to die. That was a cold blooded act of terror.

mark wahlberg has played a badass in lots of movies. But there is a HUGE difference between being a badass on the movie screen and being one in real life. Something is usually lost in translation. And there are no stuntmen and stand-ins in the real world.

marky mark made an extremely stupid remark concerning one of the 9/11 flights...“If I was on that plane with my kids, it wouldn’t have went down like it did,” wahlberg said. “There would have been a lot of blood in that first-class cabin and then me saying, ‘OK, we’re going to land somewhere safely, don’t worry.’”

It's very easy to say now what you would have done then. I have feeling though, that marky mark would have been slumped down in his seat shitting himself.

The widow of one of the heroes of Flight 93 has taken exception to wahlberg's comments and considers them silly and disrespectful. I would have to agree and maybe even go further by saying they were stupid and he is a dumbass.

obama rejects Keystone pipeline permit...

In another move designed to cost our Country jobs, obama denies the permit for the Keystone pipeline. He called the deadline "arbitrary".

There is nothing "arbitrary" about the desperate need for good jobs in this Country. This pipeline project could have supplied thousands of jobs to Americans searching for work. It would have also been a solid move toward lessening our dependence on oil from middle eastern countries.

This move by obama, once again shows that he is more interested in his personal agenda than on the American people. He proves that bowing to his political supporters is far more important than the needs of the citizens of our Country.

Jeffrey Zients will serve as President obama's new acting director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), but the president's decision might undercut attacks on Republican Mitt Romney's career as a venture capitalist, because Zients and Romney are both alumni of Bain & Company.

"I'm pleased to designate Jeff Zients to lead the Office of Management and Budget. Since day one, Jeff has demonstrated superb judgment and has provided sound advice on a whole host of issues," obama said in a statement accompanying the announcement today. Zients previously served as Deputy Director of OMB under Jack Lew, who became obama's chief of staff with the departure of Bill Daley.

Romney might also be pleased at Zients' promotion, given that they have a common professional background; Zients worked with Bain & Company as early as 1988, according to the Bain website. Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney worked at Bain & Company, first from 1977-1984, and then again from 1991 and 1992, when he was the Bain & Company chief executive officer.

Update: Bain & Company says that Zients worked there from August 1988 to June 1990. Romney apparently returned to Bain & Company from Bain Capital in January 1991, so they missed each other by six months.

The Bain name has become politically-charged recently with the rise of Mitt Romney -- not for his work as a Bain & Company executive, but rather his career at Bain Capital. Romney helped found Bain Capital with his Bain and Company colleagues in 1984, and he led the firm from until 1990.

President obama's top campaign strategist, david axelrod, criticized Romney for having a "Bain mentality," and while Romney's Republican presidential election rivals have blamed him for layoffs that took place at companies that Bain Capital financed.

The White House emphasized Zients' "twenty years as a CEO, management consultant, and entrepreneur" when announcing his promotion, but did not mention that Zients' used to work with Bain & Company.

Last night during the debate, Rick Santorum brought up that Romney's Super PAC put out a misleading ad concerning a vote on the right to vote for felons. Santorum voted for a bill that would allow felons to regain their right to vote AFTER they had completed jail time, parole and probation. The ad by the Super PAC made it appear that Santorum was in favor of letting felons still serving time vote.

As it turns out, when Romney was governor of Massachusetts, felons still on parole or probation could vote. Although Romney says he is against violent felons regaining their voting right, he did nothing to change the law in his State.

You would think that a Super PAC would do enough research to avoid an issue that would make their candidate look like a fool. Last night Romney was doing all kinds of dancing and backtracking. He blamed the democrat legislature in Massachusetts, he blamed the Super PAC, but he really didn't have a leg to stand on.

A similar situation happened with the Gingrich Super PAC and the Bain Capital ad against Romney. Much of the ad was either false or just outright lies.

But, in politics, if you say something often and loud it becomes true. The Bain Capital stuff is easy enough to verify if someone is willing to do a little research.

The lesson is this, Super PACs, do your research. Be truthful. Don't make your candidate look like a dumbass.

I did. Let me start out by saying that juan williams shouldn't be allowed to do anymore debates for FoxNews. He doesn't appear able to keep him personal, racist feelings separate from his job as a journalist. That's ok when you are just writing opinion stuff, but when you are supposed to appear to be a neutral panel member, not so much. His tone with Newt Gingrich was disdainful and accusatory. And to be honest, I don't give a damn about juan williams' personal opinion about what Newt said or didn't say, especially since what Newt said and what juan heard are two different things.

Ok, on to the debate.

I thought FoxNews wanted to get the candidates fighting right out of the gate. The opening questions were geared towards making Newt and Romney argue. It wasn't exactly productive. That time would have been better spent by discussing almost anything else.

Mitt Romney wasn't his normal self. I think all of the Bain Capital stuff is starting to take it's toll on him. I don't think he was prepared for the amount of coverage it would get. I still think it was a cheap shot from the other republicans, but, as it turns out, it may have been a good thing. If Mitt is unable to craft a suitable response NOW, how is he going to be able to when obama and his gang of thugs bring it up? Mitt seemed to be more than a little irritated about Rick Santorum bringing up the felon voting issue. He shouldn't have been, since his PAC was accusing Santorum of things with confusing images and inaccurate statements. Mitt also refused to answer the question about releasing his tax returns. He kind of appeared to answer the question, but he never actually did.

Ron Paul looked like a babbling old fool during some portions of the debate. He really didn't like getting booed. He seemed flustered and out of sorts. In Iowa and New Hampshire, Paul had sympathetic crowds, not so much in South Carolina. His isolationist foreign policy ideas didn't go over well last night. When it comes to issues concerning the economy, he is spot on, but when he starts talking about negotiating with Pakistan for bin laden, he loses me and many, many others.

Newt Gingrich looked pretty dang good last night. Especially when he was schooling juan williams. Check out the video above for more on that. Newt really does know his stuff. He is an excellent debater. One thing I had a problem with was his continued attack on Romney over Bain Capital. He claims to have asked his PAC to edit the ads to be more truthful. Well, ok, but help us out here, which parts do you feel are false? I'm not asking Newt to pimp Romney, but just be honest. Gingrich answered about everything he was asked in an intelligent and thoughtful way. I think he will see his poll numbers rise because of last night's performance.

Rick Santorum looked pretty good last night. He was able to spank Romney pretty hard on the felon voting issue. But here is my problem with Santorum, other than the exchange with Romney, nothing else was memorable.

Rick Perry looked awesome. Look, I'm a little biased here. I like Perry. I think he is the guy with the most practical experience of all the candidates. He screwed the pooch in the first few debates, I understand that. The last few debates though, he has kicked butt. Last night was no exception. He was quick to point out the differences between himself and Washington insiders like Newt and Santorum. He also has a bold, workable tax plan. He talked a little about the Marines in afghanistan that are in trouble now over the urination incident. He is of about the same opinion I am. Sure, it was a dumb thing to do, but it doesn't begin to compare to the atrocities being committed against our people. It was funny that he called Romney on his unwillingness to release his tax returns. There was no resolution, but Perry made it a front and center issue. I wouldn't be surprised to see Perry's stock go up after his performance last night.

Business group leader says Obama's recess appointments create 'constitutional crisis'

When will one of these blatant violations of the Constitution blow up and bite obama in the ass? You know, probably never. President obama is facing a new legal challenge to three recess appointments he made to the National Labor Relations Board earlier this month. Mark Mix, President of the National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation (NRWLDF), says the president's actions have created "a constitutional crisis."

Mix, and others critical of the appointments, say obama has stepped beyond the powers granted to the executive branch. They argue that since the Senate remained in session throughout the holidays, he had no authority to make recess appointments. Mix adds, "I think what he said is, 'I don't care what the Constitution says here, process be damned, I'm going to do what I want.'"

The White House is relying on a memo from the Justice Department issued Jan. 6, two days after the appointments were made. The memo, authored by Assistant Attorney General Virginia Seitz, states that the president "may properly determine that the Senate is not available under the Recess Appointments Clause when, while in recess, it holds pro forma sessions where no business can be conducted."

Some constitutional experts are backing President obama, including Ian Millhiser of the Center for American Progress. According to Millhiser, "Someone showing up for thirty seconds, they hit the gavel twice, and then they're gone - that's not a real Senate session."

The practice was started by Senate Majority Leader harry reid (D-NV) during the final two years of then-President George W. Bush's second term. reid said on Sunday that it won't work for Republicans this time around, instead predicting that President obama's recent recess appointments will withstand legal challenges.

But critics are pointing to another legal memo from the Justice Department that they claim is in conflict with the one issued Jan. 6 - and it comes from one of Obama's allies. In 2010, then-Solicitor General, now Supreme Court Justice elena kagan authored a letter to the Supreme Court Clerk's Office with respect to recess appointments. While noting the president does have authority to make such appointments, kagan added "... the Senate may act to foreclose this option by declining to recess for more than two or three days at a time..." In her Jan. 6th memo, Seitz addressed the 2010 Kagan memo and determined that it was not on point.

A number of additional business groups are joining with NRWLDF to ask that a federal judge, who is already hearing a related case involving the parties, add their new objection to the recess appointments to the existing case. There is no timeframe for a ruling.

Range Day - 1-16-1012

Me, My Little One, Big Mullet and Matt went to the range today. It was a beautiful day for it. A little breezy, but about 60 degrees. Not too bad for the middle of January.

Big Mullet was shooting some 200 yard high power (.223) when me and The Little One got there. We let him finish that up and then we went over to the 50 yard range. We shot the heck out of the Mossberg Plinkster .22. My Little One was tearing it up. It's kind of amazing how different .22 ammo can be. I buy the bulk stuff from Walmart and it shoots ok, but dang, when you get some CCI or something similar the groups are incredible.

As we were wrapping up the .22 shooting Matt got there. We decided to shoot some clay pigeons. We wound up going through three boxes of pigeons and a little over 300 shotgun shells. The wind made it a little more challenging than usual, but we had a heck of a good time.

My Little One was pretty rusty. It's been a while since she has been out. She fired several rounds through Matt's new 12 ga. I'm Not sure what it is. Maybe he will comment and tell us about it. She usually just sticks with the Remington 870 20ga. She handled the 12ga. very well. I shot Matt's new gun a couple of time but stuck mainly with the old standby, the Mossberg 500.

I took some pictures. I haven't gotten them off of the camera yet. When I do I will post them up.

All in all, it was a great day. Any day at the range is a good day.

Think how much money he could have saved if he had listened to me and pulled out about six months ago. This poor sap never had a chance. Most of us who pay attention to politics had barely heard of the guy, you can bet the average American still doesn't know who he is.

One more down. Who will be next? Will it be Perry or Santorum? My money is on Perry being the next one to pull the plug...

Trip to the gunshow...

Me and Big Mullet went to the gunshow today. Normally this particular group puts on a nice show. I have to tell you, we were a little disappointed. It seems like there were more booths of crap like candles and jewelry than there were guns. There was hardly any reloading gear. I only saw primers at two booths and they were outrageous on the price. There were only a couple of vendors selling big quantities of ammo and most of it was priced at about retail.

We had three rifles and one pistol that we wanted to look at. Big Mullet was able to find the pistol and the price on it was more than it should have been. It was the XDM 5.25. He is wanting one but not at those prices. We didn't find any of the rifles, but then we weren't counting on it. We wanted to see a Daewoo K2, no luck. We wanted to see a Spanish FR8, again, no luck. And the last one was the CZ 58.

If you aren't familiar with these weapons, give them a Google. They are all nice looking and supposed to be good shooters. The Daewoo is a South Korean cross between an AK-47 and the M16. You can spot both of those weapons in the Daewoo.

One thing I did see was the SCCY CPX-2. It's not a bad looking little pistol. It didn't fit my hand very well. Since it would be a concealed carry weapon for my Bride, I need her to see how it fits her. The price was nice on it, $249 bucks. I might try to take her up there tomorrow and have a look.

Obama's private equity alums

I'm disappointed in Rick Perry for jumping on this bullshit bandwagon. I would expect this out of Newt, and of course obama is jumping on board. The media won't scrutinize obama's associations, so these attacks may have some affect on Romney.

It is kind of amazing how many of these venture capital related people obama has hired.

For all the fire directed at the private equity world this week – from Mitt Romney’s opponents in both parties – few major politicians can claim to have their hands clean when it comes to the financial services industry, and President barack obama is no exception.

Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry found that out the hard way: Gingrich took criticism for attacking Bain Capital while having one served on the board of Forstmann Little, while Perry came in for a grilling from Laura Ingraham over the thousands of dollars in campaign donations he’s taken from private equity executives.

And Obama may have some private equity questions of his own to answer, having both taken donations from the industry and appointed a number of private equity veterans to his administration.

The most prominent among them is Jack Lew, the new White House chief of staff, who was previously a managing director at Citi Alternative Investments. Nancy-Ann DeParle, a deputy chief of staff who helped lead the president’s health care reform effort, was a managing director at CCMP Capital.

Jeffrey Goldstein, the recently-departed undersecretary of the Treasury for Domestic Finance, was a managing director at Hellman & Friedman before he joined the administration. He’s returning to the private equity firm now that he has resigned. Former auto czar Steve Rattner came out of the world of private equity before briefly working with the administration, and defended Bain Capital from attacks in a POLITICO op-ed this week.

A number of Obama advisory board members and lower-profile appointees have also had private equity on their resumes. Mark Gallogly of Centerbridge Partners, and formerly of the Blackstone Group, was on the President’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board. Richard Parsons, the former Time Warner executive on the President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness, is also linked to Providence Equity Partners Inc. Walter Jones, the U.S. executive director of the African Development Bank, was a senior private equity executive with Gravitas Capital Advisors.

There are other private equity connections on the President’s Management Advisory Board, the Board for International Food and Agriculture Development, the National Infrastructure Advisory Council and the Advisory Committee of the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation.

In light of that, one private equity insider suggested to me in an email: “If President Obama plans to campaign against Mitt Romney and the alleged evils of private equity, then he will need to start by purging the ranks of his own administration.”

Obama campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt said otherwise, arguing that the president isn’t demonizing private equity or attacking financial services in general, but rather trying to hold Romney to account for misrepresenting his work at Bain Capital.

“The central premise of Mitt Romney’s candidacy is asking Americans to elect him based on his experience in his version of the ‘real economy.’ We agree with his opponents – describing his ‘real economy’ experience isn’t about demonizing free enterprise or someone’s ability to make a profit,” LaBolt said. “It’s about Mitt Romney being truthful about his experience, and what that experience and perspective might mean for someone seeking the Oval Office.”

He continued: “As his business partner said, Romney’s experience wasn’t about job creation. It was about outsourcing jobs, closing plants, laying off workers and making millions by bankrupting companies. That’s the type of economic philosophy that helped create the economic crisis, and voters have a right to know that and judge for themselves whether that’s what they want in a president.”

As the campaign moves forward, it’ll be up to Obama to make the argument himself that there’s a major, meaningful difference between coming directly out of private equity, and being friendly to the industry and bringing private equity executives into government. That may not be hard, given how tightly Romney has bound himself to Bain Capital, but it could force at least a bit more nuance into the Democratic argument. And it could end up isolating Romney and Bain as the targets of general-election attacks, rather than private equity more broadly.

Federal judge upholds reporting requirement for gun stores

Does anyone find this surprising? It seems to be a habit lately that government entities conspire together to steal our rights. Had the atf been worried about guns being sent across the border, they probably shouldn't have been doing it themselves.

The vast majority of the guns being illegally taken to Mexico were either done by the atf or other criminals. Why is it that law abiding citizens and gun dealers have to pay a price for an out of control government agency or criminal thugs, but I repeat myself.

The atf doesn't have the authority to impose these rules on gun dealers, or they didn't, until judge collyer gave it to them. Once again, congress allows a shill of the obama administration to usurp their authority without as much as a whimper.

A federal judge has dismissed a firearms industry association's lawsuit seeking to block the Obama administration from requiring gun store owners in Southwest border states to report when customers buy multiple high-powered rifles.

U.S. District Judge rosemary m. collyer said the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives properly limited its requirement to purchasers of two or more semi-automatic rifles greater than .22 caliber within five days in the states of California, Arizona, New Mexico or Texas.

"Congress has effected a delicate balance between ATF's regulation of firearms and the right to privacy held by lawful firearms owners," Collyer wrote. The ATF's reporting requirement "did not disturb that balance."

Gun dealers opposed the requirements, arguing they would effectively require a national registration of gun sales, which they said the ATF did not have the authorization to do.

Additionally, the gun industry saw the rules as being a burden to law-abiding retailers and would not have any significant effect on clamping down on the flow of weapons to Mexican drug cartels.

The requirement was imposed after ATF acknowledged during congressional hearings it made mistakes in Operation Fast and Furious, a Phoenix-area investigation designed to catch weapons-trafficking kingpins. Agents lost track of many weapons they were trying to track to smuggling ringleaders, and some guns ended up at crime scenes in Mexico and the U.S.

Gingrich's 'Bain bomb' fizzles

Newt may not have had anything to do with this, but he hasn't condemned it either. We are going to get plenty of lies and bullshit out of the democrats. Republicans resorting to those tactics against each other is just wrong.

I'm not rooting for Romney. I just want the competition to be based on facts, not a bunch of made up, over dramatized crap. At this point, I'd have a hard time giving Newt any support...

The "Bain bomb" is full of wet fuses.

We've been keeping regular track of claims made about Mitt Romney's business history over at our Mitt Meter, but today's video "documentary" from the Gingrich-affiliated Winning Our Future PAC requires its own post. The ominous music, deep-voiced narrator and tales of worker woe were all to be expected. But I also thought that the video would get most of its basic facts correct (and then cover them in innuendo). I was wrong.

The video titled When Mitt Romney Came to Town discusses several Bain Capital companies that eventually went bankrupt or were shut down. What follows is a series of errors:

UniMac

UniMac was a Marianna, Fla.-based laundry equipment manufacturer that had been around for more than 50 years. A former worker is quoted in the video as saying: "They pulled everybody together and told us we were being sold to Raytheon, which in turn turned out to be Bain." The worker adds that quality control was sacrificed, saying: "I just wish they'd left us alone in the early 90s... at the end they just decided to shut the doors."

The reality, however, is that Raytheon (RTN) and Bain weren't the same thing. And Bain wasn't involved in the early 1990s. Raytheon agreed to purchase UniMac in 1994, and later merged it into a broader commercial laundry unit that also included facilities in Wisconsin and Kentucky. Raytheon then sold that unit four years later to Bain Capital for $358 million, alongside another private equity firm.

Bain would then hold onto the company until December 2004, when it sold it to a Canadian pension system's private equity division for $450 million. The Florida plant and some others would close under the Canadian firm's stewardship, not under Bain's, in October 2005. Moreover, Romney left Bain Capital in 1999, although he retained a financial interest.

The UniMac section also quotes a NY Magazine story about Romney saying that his Bain colleagues had a "high disdain" for "sloppy" American workers. It insinuates that these were Romney's Bain Capital colleagues working on UniMac, but it actually referred to Bain & Co. consultants from decades earlier.

KB Toys

"Romney and Bain bought the 80 year-old company in 2000." Again, Romney left Bain in 1999 and had no operational role thereafter. It is true that he remained an investor, but so did dozens of university endowments, private foundations and pension systems. None of them played a part in Bain's investment decisions or portfolio company management.

The video also plays a video of Romney speaking at Emory University in 2010, and suggests that he refers to the ultimate failure of KB Toys as "creative destruction." This is taken completely out of context. Romney's Emory comment was pulled from a 45-minute interview that never once mentioned KB Toys. Instead, he was discussing broader economic productivity issues.

DDI Corp.

The video discusses the DDI Corp., a printed circuit board maker that Bain first acquired (alongside several other PE firms) in 1996. It suggests that "Romney and Bain" began firing DDI employees just before taking it public, including 275 Colorado workers. Again, there is a timing problem. Those Colorado employees were let go in early 2000, after Romney left Bain. The IPO also occurred after Romney had left.

The filmmakers later acknowledge that Romney had left Bain prior to the IPO, but then use a 13D filing to "prove otherwise." Fortune has reviewed the filing, which does place Romney on the management committee of a Bain fund that controlled DDI shares. Bain has insisted, however, that Romney had no operational role at Bain after leaving -- with a source telling Fortune that Romney's departure for the Olympic Games was hasty, and that the fund management committee listing was just a legacy signatory role that involved no actual decision-making capabilities.

More importantly, DDI didn't file for bankruptcy until two years after its IPO, and two years after Bain had already sold all of its shares. The video insinuates that Bain knew the company was in trouble when it "dumped" its shares in 2001, but gives no evidence to support its claim.

To be clear, none of this is to suggest that Romney and Bain didn't make some very real mistakes, or that they shouldn't be criticized for situations in which they profited from financial engineering rather than from company growth. But the Winning Our Future PAC goes beyond that, intentionally obscuring the record in a way that makes such honest discussions more difficult. And for that, Winning Our Future deserves some scorn of its own.
